分布与栖息地
原生于马来半岛、苏门答腊及婆罗洲，分布涉及马来西亚、印度尼西亚和文莱。多栖息于泥炭沼泽、相关黑水溪流及其他静水环境，常有淹没草丛、水草和密集岸边植被。腐败植物释放的有机物让水呈茶褐色，矿物含量很低，野外某些水体 pH 可低至 3～4，底部散布落叶、枝条和树根。
饲养环境
底面积至少约 80 × 30 厘米。密植缸或以柔软底床、暗光、根枝和落叶组成的森林溪流布局都适合。水草应选能够承受相应光照和水质条件的种类，例如耐阴附生植物及合适的隐棒花。野外极低 pH 的记录是生境描述，不应直接当成所有人工缸必须达到的目标。
食性与喂食
野外可能兼食藻类、碎屑和小型无脊椎动物。人工饲养用优质薄片或颗粒搭配水蚤、丰年虾、摇蚊幼虫等活饵或冻饵，部分干粮应含植物或藻类成分。
习性与混养
至少保持 8～10 条，群体能降低胆怯，雄鱼争取雌鱼注意时也更容易显色。可与需求相近、体型相仿的温和东南亚鲤科鱼、部分鳅类或迷鳃鱼组合。
雌雄区分
成年雄鱼通常稍小、明显更纤细，颜色较强烈。
补充说明
与常被混淆的 'Puntius' johorensis 相比，本种最多只有一对须，幼鱼不呈垂直横带，成鱼也较小。下唇独特的肉质结构形成连续的唇后沟，亦有鉴别价值；不能只按纵纹条数判断。

Overview
'Puntius' lineatus is a small longitudinally striped shoaling fish suited to a quiet, sheltered forest-water setting. Confusion with other striped barbs is common, and its generic placement remains uncertain.
Distribution & habitat
It is native to Peninsular Malaysia, Sumatra and Borneo, including parts of Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei. Peat swamps, associated blackwater streams and other still waters are typical, often with submerged grasses, aquatic plants and dense bankside vegetation. Decaying organic matter stains the water brown. Minerals are scarce, some natural sites reach pH 3–4, and fallen leaves, branches and roots cover the bottom.
Aquarium setup
Provide a footprint of at least approximately 80 × 30 cm. Dense planting is suitable, as is a forest-stream layout using soft substrate, subdued light, roots and leaf litter. Choose plants able to tolerate the intended conditions, including suitable shade-tolerant attached plants or Cryptocoryne. Very low wild pH observations describe particular habitats; they are not an automatic target for every aquarium.
Diet & feeding
Natural foraging probably combines algae and detritus with small invertebrates. Offer good flakes or granules, including plant- or algae-containing foods, together with regular live or frozen water fleas, brine shrimp and bloodworm.
Behaviour & compatibility
Keep at least eight to ten to reduce shyness and encourage male displays. Similar-sized peaceful Southeast Asian cyprinids, selected loaches and appropriate labyrinth fishes can be considered where environmental requirements agree.
Sexual dimorphism
Adult males are generally slightly smaller, noticeably slimmer and more intensely colored than females.
Notes
Compared with the frequently confused 'Puntius' johorensis, this species has no more than one pair of barbels, lacks vertical bars as a juvenile and reaches a smaller adult size. Its distinctive fleshy lower-lip structure creates a continuous groove behind the lip. Identification should use these features together rather than stripe count alone.
