概述
月斑长臀魮（Mystacoleucus chilopterus）是流水中的开放水域鱼。臀鳍外缘内凹，背鳍和尾鳍有黑色边缘，身体前部部分鳞片带新月形暗纹，可作为识别线索。
分布与栖息地
明确记录来自老挝和泰国的湄公河中游，包括泰国东北部蒙河水系，以及泰国中西部的湄南河和美功河。云南上游及马来半岛也有可能或较少见的记录，范围仍需谨慎看待。
偏好低地流动河道，以及有岩石和砾石底质、流速较快的林间溪流。
补充说明
背鳍前有一枚朝头部方向伸出的硬刺，肉眼未必容易发现，却可能钩住鱼网。捞取时要留意是否缠网，不能因鱼体小就忽略这一结构。该特征同属鱼共有，并非本种独有的鉴定依据。

Overview
A concave anal-fin edge, dark dorsal and tail margins, and some crescent-marked scales near the front of the body help identify Mystacoleucus chilopterus. It is associated with open water in flowing habitats.
Distribution & habitat
Confirmed records cover the middle Mekong in Laos and Thailand, including the Mun basin, together with the Chao Phraya and Mae Klong systems. Possible Yunnan occurrences and sparse reports from the Malay Peninsula should be treated cautiously.
Flowing lowland channels and swift forest streams over rock and gravel are favored.
Notes
A small spine immediately ahead of the dorsal fin points toward the head. Although easily overlooked, it can catch in netting. Handle the fish carefully and check for entanglement during transfer. This feature is shared by other members of the genus and is not sufficient by itself for species identification.
