概述
Metzia bounthobi 是老挝北部南乌江流域的小型鲤科鱼，与同属近似种的区别主要涉及臀鳍分枝鳍条和鳞片数量，而不是单一鲜明花纹。
分布与栖息地
目前已知范围为丰沙里省和琅勃拉邦省的南乌江水系，属于湄公河的一条支流。采集于丘陵溪流，水清澈，流速从缓慢到中等偏快。
有限流域记录不代表可以把整个湄公河的各种水域都作为它的典型生境。

本种臀鳍分枝鳍条和侧线鳞比多数近似种多，侧线鳞约 49～55 枚，鉴别需要同时核对多个形态特征，不能只看普通银色小鱼的轮廓。
这一类群通常身体侧扁、无须，腹鳍之后有明显腹棱，背鳍末根不分枝鳍条不形成硬棘；这些共同特征并不等于每一近似种具有相同饲养需求。属内关系在分类研究中曾有争议，实际核对时仍应关注具体物种与采集流域。

Overview
Metzia bounthobi is a small cyprinid from the Nam Ou basin of northern Laos. Differences from related species mainly involve branched anal-fin rays and scale counts rather than one conspicuous color mark.
Distribution & habitat
Known localities lie in the Nam Ou drainage in Phongsaly and Luang Prabang provinces. This river is a Mekong tributary. Collections came from clear hill streams with currents ranging from slow to moderately fast.
A limited tributary distribution should not be expanded into an assumption that every kind of Mekong habitat is representative.
Notes
The species has comparatively numerous branched anal-fin rays and lateral-line scales, the latter numbering about 49–55. Identification requires a combination of characters rather than a general impression of a small silver fish.
Members of the group typically have compressed bodies, no barbels, a distinct keel behind the pelvic fins, and a final simple dorsal ray that is not a spine. Shared morphology does not establish identical care requirements among similar species. Relationships within the genus have been debated, making the actual species and collection drainage more useful than a broad generic label alone.
