布氏梭大口鱼

Overview

The slender Luciosoma bleekeri is regularly traded under Apollo-shark labels, often with an incorrect scientific name. It belongs in the largest private enclosures, where ample horizontal movement is possible.

Distribution & habitat

It occurs in the Mekong and major central or western Thai basins. Flowing rivers are used outside seasonal movements into flooded forest and swamp areas, followed by a return to perennial waters.

Aquarium setup

Keep the layout open, framing it with rounded stones and limited woodwork. Moderate circulation and high oxygen availability are preferable to excessive current. Routine weekly changes of around thirty to fifty percent help maintain water quality. Fit the lid very securely.

Diet & feeding

Terrestrial insects taken at the surface form the established major dietary component. Aquatic invertebrates and fish fry are also presumed to be eaten, but that extension remains uncertain.

Sexual dimorphism

Mature females are expected to be deeper-bodied, a tentative guide rather than a juvenile diagnostic feature.

Notes

Absence of separate spots on the lateral-line scales helps separate it from Luciosoma setigerum. The linked body markings, upper tail-base blotch and additional tail spotting should be assessed together.
