概述
花䱻（Hemibarbus maculatus）的体侧各有七至十一枚较大暗斑，体形较高，背部轮廓明显隆起。头长小于体高，嘴唇不像一些近缘种那样厚实发达，这些特征可辅助辨认。
分布与栖息地
分布在长江至黑龙江之间的东亚地区，包括中国大陆、台湾和海南，以及朝鲜半岛、蒙古、俄罗斯和日本。越南、老挝的记录可能是引入，也可能其实属于其他物种，不能视为已经确认的原生分布。
主要生活在清澈、富氧的河流中，河底可为沙、砾石、岩石或泥，并不只对应单一底质。
食性与喂食
野外主要取食底栖甲壳动物、昆虫和软体动物。
繁殖
野外繁殖季在五月至六月，卵产在水生植物之间。
补充说明
体侧黑斑、较高的身体和清晰隆起的背线，是核对身份时较直观的组合；不要仅凭“有斑点”就与其他种混同。

Overview
Seven to eleven substantial dark flank spots, a deep body, and a strongly curved back characterize Hemibarbus maculatus. Its head is shorter than the body is deep, and the lips are less developed than in some relatives.
Distribution & habitat
The eastern Asian range extends between the Yangtze and Amur basins, including mainland China, Taiwan, Hainan, Korea, Mongolia, Russia, and Japan. Reports from Vietnam and Laos may concern introductions or another species, so they should not be assumed to establish native distribution.
Clear, oxygen-rich rivers are the principal habitat. Occupied bottoms may consist of sand, gravel, rock, or mud.
Diet & feeding
Wild fish take benthic crustaceans, insects, and mollusks.
Breeding
Natural spawning occurs in May and June, with eggs placed among aquatic plants.
Notes
Consider the combination of large spots, body depth, and convex dorsal outline when identifying the fish. The presence of spots alone is insufficient to distinguish similar species.
