概述
Garra surendranathanii 是印度西南部喀拉拉邦的墨头鱼，身体修长而低，鳞缘黑色，鳃盖上缘有黑斑。成鱼可达约 15 cm，曾以“绿食藻鱼”一类名称进入贸易，不能仅凭这个标签就把它当作已知需求简单的清洁鱼。
分布与栖息地
已知范围限于喀拉拉邦的恰拉库迪河、佩里亚尔河及潘巴河流域。
恰拉库迪河采集点是穿过湿润落叶林的浅水支流，水缓慢流过卵石与巨石。佩里亚尔河记录来自两坝间受调控的常年流水河段，有大石与基岩，周边农业等活动对环境改造明显。
潘巴河记录则来自水流较快、底部为岩石和砂的支流，因此不能只凭一处慢流采集点概括其全部环境。
补充说明
可用于识别的外形包括两对须、发育良好的下颌吸附盘、吻部较平滑的突起、黑色鳞缘及鳃盖上方黑斑。胸部前方局部无鳞，不等于全身无鳞。
同类墨头鱼的吸附结构可帮助固定在流水中的表面，刮食功能也不能单独证明本种只需要藻类。购买时应核对完整学名，避免将笼统的食藻鱼商品名当作准确身份。

Overview
Garra surendranathanii is an elongate, shallow-bodied garra from Kerala in southwestern India. Black scale margins and a dark mark high on the gill cover are useful clues. It reaches about 15 cm and has occasionally been sold as a green algae-eater, a label that should not substitute for identifying its actual needs.
Distribution & habitat
Known records are limited to the Chalakkudy, Periyar, and Pamba drainages in Kerala.
The Chalakkudy collection site was a shallow tributary crossing moist deciduous forest, with slow water over pebbles and boulders. Periyar records came from a permanently flowing, regulated reach between dams. Large rocks and bedrock occur there, with substantial surrounding modification by agriculture and other human activities.
A Pamba locality differs in having fast flow over rock and sand. A single slow-water site therefore does not describe the full range of recorded conditions.
Notes
Two pairs of barbels, a developed adhesive disc, relatively smooth snout tubercles, dark scale edges, and the high opercular spot help distinguish it. Only the front of the breast is described as lacking scales; this is not a scaleless fish overall.
The adhesive structures of related garras help them hold position on submerged surfaces. A scraping apparatus does not by itself demonstrate that this species can live on algae alone. Verify its complete scientific identity rather than relying on a generic algae-eater label.
