概述
东方墨头鱼（Garra orientalis）吻部有向前突出的三裂结构，前缘密生小突起。体后部可有数条隐约纵纹，但不具某些相似种的尾柄大黑斑，比较这些特征有助于辨识。
分布与栖息地
广布中国南方，已有珠江和闽江等流域记录，模式产地在福建南平附近。海南记录仍需确认；过去来自云南及缅甸萨尔温江、伊洛瓦底江上游的报告现被认为是其他种。偏好石质急流源头与支流，水清而富氧。
补充说明
吻突下缘向前离开吻面，体后纵纹通常不强烈。辨识时还应结合尾柄及尾鳍是否有深色斑块，不宜只因吻部形状接近就忽略其他差异。

Overview
A forward-projecting, three-lobed snout process characterizes Garra orientalis. The fish may show faint rear-body lines, but lacks the conspicuous tail-base blotch found in some similar relatives. Those features are useful in combination.
Distribution & habitat
The species is known from southern China, including the Pearl and Min systems, with the original locality near Nanping in Fujian. Hainan records remain uncertain, and older Salween or upper Irrawaddy reports concern different fishes. Rocky, swiftly flowing tributaries provide its typical habitat.
Notes
The snout process projects free of the depressed surface beneath it. Consider its form together with body pattern and the absence of prominent caudal markings, rather than using the presence of a process alone.
