概述
海南墨头鱼（Garra imberba）也有“无须墨头鱼”等旧称，明显特点是没有口须，吻部圆而不具突起。名称相近的其他种曾造成分布误认，辨识时应注意种名拼写与产地。
分布与栖息地
原产中国长江上游、澜沧江和元江水系，以及越南红河上游。萨尔温江记录来自与另一种近似学名的混淆，不属于可靠分布。偏好源头与支流的快速流水，水清、溶氧高，浸水表面易形成生物膜。
补充说明
除无须外，吻前没有明显纵沟，肛门接近腹鳍基部，也是与部分近缘种区分的线索。其属级归属曾有不同处理，既有学名不能凭外形相似随意替换。

Overview
The absence of barbels and a rounded, unprojected snout are useful clues to Garra imberba. Similar spelling among related names has caused distribution errors, making precise identification important.
Distribution & habitat
Native records cover the upper Yangtze, Lancang and Red River systems in China, with extension into the upper Red in Vietnam. Salween reports involve a different similarly named fish. Clear, highly oxygenated tributaries and headwaters are characteristic.
Notes
Additional features include the absence of a longitudinal groove before the nostrils and an anus close to the pelvic-fin bases. Proposed changes in generic placement reflect wider unresolved relationships within the group.
