概述
虹彩光唇鱼（Acrossocheilus iridescens）最醒目的特征是成鱼体侧宽阔的黑色竖纹，每条可跨六至八枚鳞片。它的分布和分类边界仍有疑点，选购时仅凭名称或产地未必能确认身份。
分布与栖息地
记录涉及老挝的南桑河、南马河流域，越南和中国云南的红河流域，以及海南岛。不过，部分大陆种群的分类地位存在疑问；模式产地在海南，狭义的本种可能仅分布于海南。
补充说明
本种背鳍没有延长成丝状的分枝鳍条，背鳍外缘较平直或仅略凹；幼鱼的黑色竖纹相对较宽。这些特征有助于与近似种区分。历史上有些来自海南或珠江流域的光唇鱼记录存在误定，不能把旧记录直接作为本种分布依据。

Overview
Broad black flank bands give adult Acrossocheilus iridescens a distinctive appearance, with each band spanning six to eight scales. Recognizing the pattern does not resolve every identification problem: both the limits of the species and the assignment of some populations remain uncertain.
Distribution & habitat
Reported localities include the Nam Xam and Nam Ma systems in Laos, the Red River drainage in Vietnam and Yunnan, and Hainan. Some of these populations may not belong to the species in a strict sense. Its type locality is on Hainan, which could prove to be the actual range of the narrowly defined species.
Notes
Useful recognition features include the absence of an elongated dorsal filament and a dorsal outline that is nearly straight or only slightly indented. Juveniles have comparatively broad dark bars. Historical identifications from Hainan and the Pearl River have sometimes involved other barred fishes, so old locality lists need to be interpreted with care.
