性情和平且领地意识不强，可与体型相称的灯鱼、鲤科鱼、温和慈鲷及鲶鱼混养，也可与同种或其他安静异型成群。小型伙伴仍可能因它体型很大而受压，混养时要考虑这一点。

不同产地色型很多，已知编号并未覆盖全部变化，但都具有延长的尾鳍。购入新鱼应检查腹部饱满、眼睛不凹陷，明显消瘦的个体不宜只因花色吸引而忽略健康状态。

Overview
A long-tailed pleco that becomes large, Squaliforma cf. emarginata can easily outgrow expectations formed from small shop specimens. It is usually peaceful but moves rapidly when startled, requiring both substantial space and an unobstructed floor.
Distribution & habitat
It is widespread through the Amazon region of Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, and Bolivia. L011 is associated with the Xingu, L035 with the Araguaia, L116 with the Trombetas, and L108 with Ecuador’s Napo. Natural habitats have flowing, oxygen-rich water over sand with scattered stones.
Aquarium setup
Use a spacious aquarium, preferably with sand. Large wood pieces and smooth rocks offer shade and refuges, but arrange them to leave the main floor routes clear for sudden movement. Dim light, ample oxygen, and efficient waste-handling filtration are important. Several fish require much more space than one.
Diet & feeding
Most offered foods are accepted. Provide regular vegetables such as cucumber, zucchini, or softened spinach alongside dry, live, and frozen foods, rather than relying on incidental scraps.
Behaviour & compatibility
Peaceful and notably nonterritorial, it can live with appropriately sized characins, cyprinids, mild cichlids, and catfish. Conspecifics or other peaceful plecos can also share a suitably large setup. Small companions may nevertheless be intimidated by its size.
Breeding
Aquarium breeding is unreported.
Notes
Geographic variation exceeds the named L-number forms, while the elongated tail is shared. When selecting imports, look for a filled belly and eyes that are not sunken; attractive patterning should not distract from obvious emaciation.
