An unidentified loach from hills near Darjeeling, Schistura sp. 4 appears robust, but its aquarium temperament is unconfirmed. Neither aggressive behavior nor easy community compatibility should be assumed from appearance.
Distribution & habitat
Known collected fish came from the Siwalik hills around Darjeeling in West Bengal, India. The wider range is unknown. Their site was a small clear, shallow hill stream above a thousand meters elevation, with developed bankside vegetation.
Aquarium setup
A suggested stream-style setup combines sand, fine gravel, mixed rocks, and worn boulders. External filtration, circulation pumps, or aeration provide movement and oxygen, with weekly water changes of roughly 30–50%.
