Overview
A social catfish from flowing water, Ompok eugeneiatus is generally peaceful and somewhat shy. It can suit communities of appropriately sized calm fish, but anything small enough to swallow remains vulnerable.
Distribution & habitat
It is recorded from Brunei, Thailand, Cambodia, Malaysia, and Indonesia in flowing-water habitats.
Aquarium setup
The suggested dimensions are 120 by 30 by 30 cm. Retain open swimming room while providing wood, broad pipes, and dense plant patches. Some current, good oxygenation, effective filtration, and regular water changes are required.
Diet & feeding
Live, frozen, and dry diets are generally accepted. Larger fish can take suitable earthworms, prawns, mussel pieces, and pellets.
Behaviour & compatibility
A group of at least four is recommended. Choose peaceful companions of comparable or larger size, avoiding aggressive fish. Sharp teeth and a predatory mouth make small companions unsuitable.
Sexual dimorphism
Males have serration on the pectoral spine that females lack. Mature females are fuller-bodied.
Notes
Uncommon in trade, it benefits from being understood as a social flowing-water fish rather than identified only by a broad glass-catfish label.
