概述
短背鳍新鳗鲶（Neosilurus brevidorsalis）是分布于澳大利亚北端与巴布亚新几内亚南部的淡水鳗鲶，成鱼约 20 cm。名称中的“短背鳍”对应其相对较小的背鳍，不能据此把它当作微型鱼安排空间。

Overview
Neosilurus brevidorsalis is a freshwater eel-tailed catfish from the far north of Australia and southern Papua New Guinea. Adults reach about 20 cm. Its short dorsal fin explains the common name, but should not be mistaken for evidence that it is a miniature aquarium fish.
Distribution & habitat
Australian records are restricted to the Jardine and Jackson drainage systems on Cape York Peninsula. In Papua New Guinea it occurs in the Fly River and some additional catchments.
The two-country distribution therefore refers to limited northern Australian and southern New Guinean regions, rather than widespread occurrence throughout either country.
Aquarium setup
Provide a footprint of at least approximately 120 × 45 cm, or an equivalent area. Both length and width matter when selecting accommodation; the present dimensions of a juvenile are not an adequate basis for judging its space needs.
Notes
The species epithet refers to the comparatively small dorsal fin. The complete scientific name and restricted distribution help distinguish it from other fishes loosely described as eel-tailed catfish.
