尚无可靠的性别判断方法，普通缸内繁殖也缺少确切成功资料。
贸易中容易与近似的半陶乐鲶类 Hemidoras stenopeltis 混淆。本种背鳍较透明、暗斑在基部，后者暗色集中于鳍尖；本种吻部也较圆。

Overview
Nemadoras leporhinus is a shy, nocturnal schooling thorny catfish. Its peaceful disposition does not guarantee community suitability, since active or territorial bottom fishes can readily outcompete it.
Distribution & habitat
Museum records cover Venezuela, Guyana, and Brazil, including the Branco, Orinoco, and Essequibo systems. Detailed habitat information is lacking; the slow-water environments occupied by similar fishes should not be treated as confirmed observations for this species.
Aquarium setup
A starting footprint can be provided by a tank around 60 × 38 × 30 cm. Use dim lighting and abundant shelters such as pots, tubes, and tangled wood. Wood appears particularly attractive as cover. Plants are optional but help shade the bottom and add retreats. Some circulation is also appreciated.
Diet & feeding
Sinking catfish pellets, algae wafers, and other dry foods are usually taken. Add live or frozen foods regularly, with bloodworms particularly favored. Feeding before lights out helps this nocturnal fish receive its share.
Behaviour & compatibility
Choose placid companions of appropriate size, preferably using other parts of the aquarium. Boisterous or territorial bottom dwellers can make feeding difficult; suitable smaller peaceful catfishes are possible alternatives.
Conspecific company suits its natural schooling habits. Several may share a daytime refuge, with occasional jostling generally causing no injury. Match group size to comfortable accommodation.
Notes
Reliable sexing characters are unknown, and clear evidence of successful aquarium reproduction is lacking.
A frequent look-alike is Hemidoras stenopeltis. In N. leporhinus, the otherwise clear dorsal fin has a dark basal patch; the similar fish has a dark tip instead. The snout of N. leporhinus is also rounder.
