拥挤时可能非常好斗，只能在足够大型设施内考虑与体形相近、健壮的鱼共同饲养。无法提供空间时，增加混养对象并不能分散风险。

L234 曾误用于 Megalancistrus parananus，后者来自巴拉那、巴拉圭和乌拉圭河水系，而 L234 的产地是圣弗朗西斯科河，因此更可能代表尚未定名的另一种鱼。
同流域还有其他 Megalancistrus，单凭产于圣弗朗西斯科河也不足以确定所有个体都是 L234。

Overview
The large São Francisco Megalancistrus coded L234 belongs in public installations or exceptionally large private aquaria. Confinement can provoke severe aggression. Temporary space for a juvenile does not establish suitability for long-term adult care.
Distribution & habitat
It is known only from eastern Brazil's São Francisco system. Precise natural habitat details are not established.
Aquarium setup
Housing is restricted to public displays or very large private facilities. The lack of a specific minimum dimension should not be mistaken for a lack of substantial adult space requirements.
Diet & feeding
Aquatic invertebrates with smaller amounts of wood are presumed wild foods, largely by comparison with a relative. Whether wood is nutritionally essential or swallowed incidentally during foraging remains unresolved.
Vary sinking preparations with frozen water fleas, mosquito larvae, bloodworms, and shrimp flesh, alongside fresh fruit and parboiled potato. Gel foods can combine vegetables, Spirulina, and animal ingredients. Appearance alone is not a reason to treat it as exclusively wood- or algae-feeding.
Behaviour & compatibility
It can become very aggressive in confined surroundings. Only similarly sized, robust fishes should be considered as companions, and only in sufficiently large facilities. Adding tankmates cannot compensate for inadequate space.
Notes
L234 was formerly applied to Megalancistrus parananus, which comes from the Paraná, Paraguay, and Uruguay systems. São Francisco origin instead suggests that L234 represents an undescribed species.
Other members of the genus also occur in the São Francisco, so drainage alone does not identify every specimen as L234.
