习性与混养
可专缸饲养，或在足够空间及观察条件下考虑其他大型慈鲷。对同种的攻击需要特别留意，不应仅因两条幼鱼暂时同处就认定已形成安全配对。凡能被吞下的鱼都不适合作伴。
雌雄区分
雄鱼具有明显的黑点和黑色条纹，是“虎纹”称呼的重要来源。

本种在观赏鱼市场并不常见。稀少和花纹吸引人都不能降低其对大型饲养空间的要求，选购前应按成鱼状态准备。

Overview
Lugubria tigrina is notable for the male's bold black spots and stripes. Reaching approximately 30 cm, it remains a substantial pike cichlid with a large mouth and potential conspecific aggression, regardless of its attractive pattern.
Distribution & habitat
It is known only from the Trombetas River in the Brazilian Amazon.
Aquarium setup
A tank around 180 × 60 × 60 cm provides a reference. Sand and rock caves give the fish places to withdraw. Excavation and rearrangement of furnishings are possible. If plants are used, choose robust varieties in pots or secured to wood. The arrangement must accommodate the mature fish and allow retreat, rather than serving only as a backdrop for its markings.
Diet & feeding
Use a varied menu of quality cichlid pellets or flakes, live and frozen foods, prawns and mussels, with spirulina- or algae-containing preparations included as appropriate. Fish small enough to swallow are potential prey, so vulnerable tankmates should not be treated as a feeding arrangement.
Behaviour & compatibility
A dedicated aquarium is an option; other large cichlids require sufficient space and careful observation. Watch conspecific interactions particularly closely. Temporary juvenile coexistence does not establish a safe adult pair, and any swallowable fish is an unsuitable companion.
Sexual dimorphism
Males show the conspicuous black spots and stripes behind the common name.
Notes
This species is uncommon in the trade. Rarity and striking appearance do not reduce the need to prepare a substantial permanent aquarium around adult requirements.
