Leporacanthicus galaxias 对应 L029，是需要宽敞空间和高溶氧的异型。它对其他水层鱼通常温和，却会对底部竞争者守地盘，尤其不能把花纹相似的异型挤在一起。
分布与栖息地
记录来自巴西多条水系，包括亚马孙河与托坎廷斯河，生活在急流及其他流速较快的河段。

宽敞缸内优先铺沙，用大沉木和光滑石块形成阴影、洞隙。光线偏暗有利于躲藏，水中必须有高溶氧和适当流动，可用造流泵或较大气石辅助。

补充说明
vampire 等商品名与上颌两枚较大牙齿有关，并不表示吸血。牙齿可能帮助抓取螺或其他无脊椎动物，具体作用仍未完全确定。
L007、L240、L241、L294 等相似型被暂称为 Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias，可能是地域型，也可能另属不同种。L007 斑点较大、吻较短、背鳍较大；L241 侧面较扁，L240 则很难凭外观与本种区分。不要把全部编号直接并成已确认同一种。
选购时检查腹部是否饱满、眼睛是否凹陷，以免忽视明显消瘦。

Overview
The L029 pleco, Leporacanthicus galaxias, needs generous space and high oxygen levels. It is usually peaceful toward fishes using other water layers but territorial with bottom competitors, especially similarly patterned plecos.
Distribution & habitat
Records span several Brazilian drainages, including the Amazon and Tocantins. Rapids and other fast-flowing reaches form its natural habitat.
Aquarium setup
Provide spacious quarters, preferably with sand, large wood pieces, and smooth rocks creating shaded refuges. Subdued light is useful. High oxygen availability and movement are essential, with circulation pumps or large airstones as possible supplements.
An efficient filter must handle substantial waste production. Extra current cannot substitute for pollution control and maintenance.
Diet & feeding
It is not strongly vegetarian. Sinking preparations are accepted, alongside earthworms, shrimp flesh, mussels, and bloodworms; snails are also relished. Plan a varied ration around these preferences rather than relying only on algae wafers.
Behaviour & compatibility
Suitable fishes occupying other parts of the aquarium are generally tolerated. Select robust companions with matching size and environmental needs.
Territorial responses focus on other benthic fishes, particularly those with similar patterns. Groups or mixed-pleco arrangements need exceptionally roomy bottom space. Peace toward upper-water companions does not imply tolerance of crowding below.
Sexual dimorphism
From above, mature males have longer and wider heads. Their dorsal fins are larger and odontodes more numerous than in females.
Breeding
Captive reproduction has occurred, but practical details are limited. In nature it spawns in deep riverbank holes during the wet season.
Notes
Vampire trade names refer to the enlarged upper-jaw teeth, not blood feeding. Their proposed role in gripping snails or other invertebrates remains incompletely resolved.
Similar fishes coded L007, L240, L241, and L294 are provisionally called Leporacanthicus cf. galaxias. They may be geographic forms or separate species. L007 has larger spots, a shorter snout, and a larger dorsal fin; L241 is flatter in profile, while L240 is particularly difficult to separate visually. These codes should not all be treated as confirmed synonyms.
Check for a filled abdomen and watch for sunken eyes or other signs of emaciation when selecting fish.
