窄魮脂鲤（Hyphessobrycon compressus）是来自中美洲的小型脂鲤，也是魮脂鲤属的模式种。它在观赏鱼贸易中不常见，体形侧扁是其学名含义所指的特征。

Overview
Hyphessobrycon compressus is a Central American tetra and the type species of its genus. It is uncommon in the ornamental trade. The scientific name refers to its laterally compressed body shape.
Distribution & habitat
It is recorded from southern Mexico, Guatemala, and Belize. The type locality lies in the Papaloapan drainage of Oaxaca, Mexico. Collections span small rivers, streams, temporary freshwater swamps, and larger permanent lakes, showing that its habitat is not limited to a single water-body type.
Diet & feeding
The natural diet is thought to be opportunistically omnivorous. That remains a tentative assessment rather than evidence for a particular prepared food or a fixed aquarium menu.
Sexual dimorphism
Breeding adult males reportedly develop a substantially darker pattern than females, providing a possible observational clue.
Notes
Many historical tetra groups were assembled from color patterns and do not necessarily represent shared ancestry. This species is important in resolving the genus, but taxonomic membership alone does not establish identical husbandry or reproductive behavior across all species.
