概述
Hoplisoma petracinii

Overview
Hoplisoma petracinii is a small catfish from an ephemeral stream near Salta, Argentina. A low profile and reduced fin spines suit life among rocks in flowing water. Cool, oxygen-rich, clean conditions take priority over assumptions based on common tropical cory catfishes.
Distribution & habitat
Only one locality is known in the Lomas de Medeiros hills of Salta Province, within the San Lorenzo watershed. This connects through the Juramento to the upper Paraná system. The type site is approximately 1222 m above sea level.
The unnamed rocky stream flows swiftly during summer rains but nearly dries out for much of the year. Permanent water remains downstream, while deeper residual pools allow fish to survive farther upstream.
Proximity to Salta city, road construction, and refuse dumping place ecological pressure on the stream.
Aquarium setup
Use fine sand or very clean smooth gravel, with shelter and water-worn stones reflecting the natural setting.
Close attention to oxygenation, cleanliness, and temperature is essential. Natural low-water periods do not justify poor water quality or inadequate oxygen in an aquarium.
Diet & feeding
Related cory catfishes are generally foraging omnivores and commonly accept sinking preparations with small live or frozen bloodworms and aquatic worms. A varied feeding approach can draw on that group experience without treating it as a confirmed natural menu for this species.
Notes
Five to seven separate, roughly square flank blotches occur along the meeting line of the body plates. Dark caudal spots form three or four uneven vertical bands, while the pectoral, pelvic, and anal fins are clear and unmarked. Small eyes, reduced body depth, and short spines add to the identification combination.
This is not a routine aquarium-trade fish. Some features resemble Aspidoras, but the cranial structure differs. Supplementary air breathing among armored catfishes does not remove the need for high oxygen levels here. Fin spines still warrant careful handling.
