Hoplisoma brevirostre 是一种短圆吻、尾鳍带深色条纹的温和群居甲鲶。它与数种近缘鱼长期被混淆，商品鉴定和分布记录都需要谨慎看待。
分布与栖息地
最初描述使用水族贸易标本，据称来自委内瑞拉奥里诺科河水系。其后常被记为分布于该流域及苏里南未明确的沿海河流，但完整范围仍不清楚。
这种不连续记录若正确，圭亚那也可能有分布，不过目前不能作为已确认产地。
饲养环境
以细沙铺底较好，也可用圆滑砾石，但要仔细保持清洁。造景其他部分可自由安排，同时提供遮蔽，帮助鱼群获得安全感。
食性与喂食
相关鼠鱼类群一般为搜食型杂食鱼，常接受沉底干粮及红虫、水蚯蚓等小型活饵和冷冻饵。应提供多样、规律的专门投喂，不能指望它只靠混养鱼剩下的食物生活，也不能用它代替清洁底床。
习性与混养
温和且喜欢群体生活，建议至少四至六条一起饲养。
雌雄区分
雌鱼通常更大，性成熟后体形较圆、体高较深。
补充说明
短而圆的吻配合尾鳍深色带纹是常用识别组合。它与 Hoplisoma melanistium、Brochis delphax 等近似种不易分辨，历史上的 Corydoras wotroi 同物异名处理也曾不同，不宜直接把这一名字当作本种可靠别名。
旧属名 Corydoras 在 2024 年调整后改用 Hoplisoma。相关甲鲶能利用肠道摄取空气，偶尔上浮吞气常见。胸鳍硬棘能造成疼痛刺伤，棘基分泌物可能有轻微毒性，搬运时要小心。

Overview
A short, rounded snout and dark caudal bars are commonly used to recognize Hoplisoma brevirostre. This peaceful social catfish has often been confused with similar relatives, leaving both aquarium identifications and distribution records uncertain.
Distribution & habitat
The original description used an aquarium specimen reportedly exported from Venezuela's Orinoco drainage. Later accounts commonly list that system and unspecified coastal rivers in Suriname, but the complete range remains vague.
If that discontinuous pattern is correct, occurrence in Guyana would be plausible. It should not be treated as a confirmed locality.
Aquarium setup
Use fine sand where possible. Rounded gravel is an alternative with careful cleaning. Other furnishings are flexible, provided there is cover to give the group security.
Diet & feeding
Related cory catfishes are generally foraging omnivores. Sinking prepared foods and small live or frozen bloodworms and aquatic worms are commonly accepted.
Supply a varied ration specifically for the fish. Food missed by other occupants is not reliable nutrition, and keeping catfish does not replace bottom maintenance.
Behaviour & compatibility
Peaceful and gregarious, it is best maintained with at least four to six conspecifics.
Sexual dimorphism
Females tend to grow larger and become rounder and deeper-bodied at maturity.
Notes
The combination of a short rounded snout and barred tail helps separate it from lookalikes such as Hoplisoma melanistium and Brochis delphax. Historical treatment of the name Corydoras wotroi has differed, so that name should not automatically be taken as a dependable synonym of this species.
Formerly placed in Corydoras, it moved to Hoplisoma in 2024. Related armored catfishes supplement respiration through the intestine, explaining occasional surface gulps. Handle carefully around pectoral spines, which can cause painful punctures; mild toxicity of nearby secretions is suspected.
