食性与喂食
杂食且十分贪吃，颗粒、动物性冷冻饵和植物材料均可组成食谱。成年个体不需每天投喂，重点是控制总量，避免持续索食导致过量。
习性与混养
以单养为宜。能吞下的鱼会被吃掉，体型较大的同伴也可能遭攻击，因此单纯选择“大鱼”并不能消除风险。
雌雄区分
雌鱼身体通常更粗厚。
繁殖
曾在实验条件下通过激素诱导繁殖，但不属于普通家庭水族箱的可行常规项目，没有可直接套用的家庭流程。

Overview
The giant African catfish Heterobranchus longifilis combines heavy predation with attacks on some larger companions. It is normally a solitary-housing species for public aquariums or keepers with suitable large facilities.
Distribution & habitat
It is widespread across Africa, using deep water in rivers, lakes, and ponds.
Aquarium setup
Approximately 180 × 60 × 60 cm and 648 L is only an absolute starting allowance. A growing fish may exceed that accommodation, requiring an upgrade. Failure to reach the largest wild size would not eliminate the need to plan for a very large adult.
Soft substrate and minimal decoration preserve room. A sufficiently large tropical pond is another option. Efficient filtration is essential because waste production is substantial. Temperatures toward the upper part of its established range are favored.
Diet & feeding
This greedy omnivore accepts pellets, animal-based frozen foods, and plant material. Adults do not require daily feeding. Control overall intake rather than repeatedly feeding in response to its appetite.
Behaviour & compatibility
Keep it alone. Smaller fishes are swallowed, and even larger companions may be attacked. Choosing big tankmates therefore does not resolve the compatibility problem.
Sexual dimorphism
Females tend to be thicker-bodied.
Breeding
Hormonal induction has produced captive reproduction for experimental purposes. It is not a routine home-aquarium project, and no dependable household procedure is established here.
Notes
An unusually long adipose fin helps distinguish it from similar members of its genus. Confirm permanent facilities before acquiring a juvenile; current size or temporary shop housing does not represent adult needs.
