Overview
Fundulopanchax gresensi is a localized Cameroonian killifish, commonly encountered in the hobby as the Takwai strain. Plenty of shelter and secure containment are basic priorities because it readily jumps.
Distribution & habitat
Known sites occupy a small western Cameroonian area within the upper Cross drainage. Records concern the Bagwor and Mack systems around Takwai I, Takwai II, Atebong Wire, and Edjuingan.
Collections came from shallow, swamp-like stretches of forest streams. Some sites may lose water during the dry season. Forest clearance is a possible pressure in parts of the range, although the extent of that threat is poorly documented.
Aquarium setup
An elaborate layout is unnecessary. Plants and wool spawning mops can supply extensive cover, while a properly fitted lid prevents escapes. If filtration is installed, an air-driven sponge unit is preferable for avoiding injury to eggs and young.
Lighting can suit the aquarist's needs rather than a strict species requirement. Filamentous algae need not be removed simply because they appear.
Notes
Locality names and collection codes distinguish wild stocks and help limit unintended crosses. Takwai is the commonly maintained strain name, so retain that provenance when passing fish on.
