长吻复齿脂鲤（Distichodus lusosso）幼鱼色彩醒目，成年后会失去不少颜色与花纹。细长、尖锐的头形是辨认线索之一。不同个体性情差异大，有些长大后会变得非常强势，不能只按幼鱼阶段判断混养前景。

单尾至少需考虑约 150 × 45 × 45 cm 的空间。用沙或砾石配光滑岩石、沉木，保留泳道及适量水流。它善跳，必须使用贴合、稳固的缸盖。

Overview
Juvenile Distichodus lusosso has striking color and markings that fade substantially with maturity. A narrow pointed head helps distinguish it. Temperament varies widely, and some adults become markedly aggressive despite an apparently manageable juvenile phase.
Distribution & habitat
It inhabits large rivers in Cameroon, the Republic of the Congo, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
Aquarium setup
For one fish, consider at least approximately 150 × 45 × 45 cm. Sand or gravel, smooth rocks, and wood provide a practical layout with swimming space and some current. Fit a strong, close-fitting lid because it jumps well.
Most vegetation is eaten. Tough anubias or aquatic ferns may survive better but are not guaranteed protection.
Diet & feeding
This omnivore needs a significant plant component. Earthworms, shrimp, and mussel can be combined with shelled peas, algae-based flakes, and softened spinach.
Behaviour & compatibility
Some individuals remain placid with similar-sized fishes; others become hostile as they grow. Avoid very small or timid companions. With abundant room, conspecific groups may disperse some aggression, without eliminating risk. Compatible large characins, cyprinids, and catfishes are potential choices requiring observation.
Notes
Reliable external sexing and a routine aquarium breeding method are unavailable. It resembles Distichodus sexfasciatus but matures at a smaller size and has a narrower, pointed head. Distinguish the two before committing to long-term housing.
