用柔软砂底和沉木枝根布置多处遮蔽，花盆、短管或半个椰壳也可作为藏身处。重点是让雌鱼及弱势个体避开优势雄鱼，而不是只放一个可被强势鱼独占的洞。采用弱光，配合耐阴水草和浮水植物，温和过滤并保持轻微水面扰动。
习性与混养
可考虑温和、活动于开放水层的脂鲤或鲤科小鱼。其他慈鲷通常不宜加入，只有特别大的缸才可能考虑健壮的种类。除极大空间外应只养一条雄鱼，配多条雌鱼以分散追逐；雌鱼之间也会建立自己的等级。

Overview
Ctenochromis polli is mainly bottom-dwelling and not strongly gregarious. A dominant male usually excludes rivals, so a single male with several females is the practical arrangement for most aquaria. Subordinate fish need routes into shelter.
Distribution & habitat
It was described from Pool Malebo, the widened Congo River between Kinshasa and Brazzaville. Records extend south into parts of the Lower Congo and north toward Kwamouth in the central basin.
Aquarium setup
Use soft sand with roots and branches arranged into multiple retreats. Pots, short pipes, and coconut-shell halves can also provide cover. Distribute shelters so females and weaker individuals can escape the dominant male. Dim lighting, shade-tolerant plants, floating growth, and gentle filtration with some surface movement suit the arrangement.
Behaviour & compatibility
Peaceful characins or cyprinids occupying open water are possible companions. Other cichlids are best excluded except in unusually large aquaria, where only robust species should be considered. Keep one male in all but the largest systems, with several females to distribute attention. Females establish their own hierarchy as well.
Sexual dimorphism
Adult males grow larger and show a reddish-orange patch beneath the head that intensifies during courtship or territorial displays.
