饲养环境
会按自己的需要移动造景，水草可能被连根掀起，因此布置应考虑其改造环境的行为。提供岩石形成的藏身处，水流不要过强。已经稳定配对的个体可在单种缸中饲养。
食性与喂食
通常不挑食，可用慈鲷颗粒作为日常主食，间或搭配虾肉、贻贝肉等动物性食物。能吃这些食物不代表一定适合与小型水生动物混养。
习性与混养
若尝试混养，只宜考虑中大型、较健壮的鱼，例如体型相称的慈鲷、脂鲤或鲶类。即使如此也不能保证相处成功。用充足造景分隔可占据的空间，观察追逐是否集中在某条鱼身上；不应仅靠增加鱼数来解决攻击问题。
雌雄区分
雄鱼一般更大、颜色更鲜明，背鳍和臀鳍延长。

Overview
Cichlasoma boliviense is uncommon in the aquarium trade. Although less aggressive than some formidable Central American cichlids, it still needs space and shelter. Relative mildness should not be interpreted as suitability for a community of small fishes.
Distribution & habitat
It inhabits the Mamoré, Guaporé, and Madre de Dios drainages of Bolivia and Peru, using shallow pools and slow-moving margins.
Aquarium setup
Expect the fish to rearrange its surroundings and uproot plants. Provide rocky retreats and avoid excessive current. An established bonded pair can occupy a dedicated aquarium.
Diet & feeding
It is generally unfussy. Cichlid pellets can serve as the staple, with occasional prawn or mussel flesh for variety. Acceptance of these foods alone does not establish compatibility with small aquatic animals.
Behaviour & compatibility
Mixed housing should involve only robust medium to large fishes, such as appropriately sized cichlids, characins, or catfishes. Success is not assured. Furnish the aquarium so individuals can claim separate areas, and watch for persistent targeting of one fish. Adding more occupants is not, by itself, a solution to aggression.
Sexual dimorphism
Males tend to become larger and more colorful, with longer dorsal and anal fins.
Notes
The spelling Cichlasoma boliviensis sometimes appears on older labels. For pair housing, an established bond matters more than simply having two individuals.
