班甘连尾鮡（Chaca bankanensis）是一种伪装伏击型鲶鱼，常藏在落叶和底部碎屑中，用须模拟小虫动作引诱猎物，再突然张口吞下。它平时少动并不代表温和，能够吞下几乎与自己同样大的鱼，不适合普通小鱼混养缸。

与连尾鮡相比，本种颜色较深、偏红，唇部和身体没有近亲的小钩状突起。白天很少走动，偶尔夜间出动觅食；红光观察有时能见到这些行为。关于其改变酸度是消化液、诱饵化学物或防御分泌物造成的解释都仍是推测。

Overview
A camouflaged ambush catfish, Chaca bankanensis waits among leaves and debris, moving its barbels to imitate a small worm before engulfing approaching prey. Inactivity should not be confused with compatibility: fish almost its own size may be swallowed.
Distribution & habitat
It occurs in Malaysia, Indonesia, and Brunei, using shallow, shaded rainforest waters with leaf litter and accumulated organic debris.
Aquarium setup
A 90 by 30 by 30 cm aquarium is suggested for one fish. Use dim light, soft sand for burial, branches, and dried leaves. Many plants struggle in these conditions, though tolerant attached ferns or mosses are options.
Members of the genus appear capable of lowering pH in confined water, for reasons that remain uncertain. Monitor conditions carefully and maintain the aquarium rigorously, particularly where small volume allows rapid chemical changes.
Diet & feeding
Some juveniles can be weaned to dry or frozen animal foods, while many individuals continue to demand live prey. Suitable small fish, river shrimp, and earthworms are options. Plan for feeding variation rather than assuming conversion will always succeed.
Behaviour & compatibility
Species-focused housing is safest. Conspecifics are generally tolerated, but other fish approaching the mouth risk capture. Even fast upper-water companions in deep, spacious tanks are not reliably safe.
Sexual dimorphism
Males are longer and more slender than females.
Breeding
Captive reproduction has not been confirmed. Similarity to Chaca chaca is considered possible, but that relative’s tube-spawning account is not evidence of an established method for this species.
Notes
Compared with Chaca chaca, it is darker and redder and lacks the small hooklets on the lips and body. Daytime movement is uncommon, with occasional nighttime foraging that may be observed under red light. Proposed explanations for pH effects remain hypotheses, not established mechanisms.
