概述
背兵鲶（Brochis ephippifera）来自巴西阿马帕州，体背深色鞍状斑是显著外观。它与几种近缘斑点鱼相似，除背鳍外各鳍透明无斑可能是有用线索，仍需谨慎鉴别。
分布与栖息地
原生巴西东北部阿马帕州，模式地点为阿马帕里河右岸的卡舒埃拉溪。具体分布不宜仅由这一地点推成全州普遍存在。
饲养环境
铺细沙较理想，也可用圆滑而洁净的砾石。提供遮蔽，使群体有可退避的位置。
食性与喂食
杂食，可接受下沉干粮及小型活冷冻饵。直接投喂多样食谱，不依赖其他鱼的残饵。
习性与混养
性情温和，适合至少四至六尾成群。
雌雄区分
雌鱼通常更大，成熟后体形更圆，体高也较高。
补充说明
透明无斑的非背鳍特征与花尾兵鲶、德氏兵鲶等近似鱼形成对照，但不是忽略其他外观的理由。它能辅助呼吸空气，偶尔上浮吞气。搬动时须防胸鳍硬棘刺伤，棘基分泌物可能有轻微毒性。

Overview
A dark saddle-like mark characterizes Brochis ephippifera. Several related spotted catfishes resemble it, but transparent, unmarked fins other than the dorsal are suggested as a useful distinction.
Distribution & habitat
The species is native to Amapá in northeastern Brazil. Its type locality is Cachoera Creek on the right bank of the Amapari River; the precise extent of its range remains uncertain.
Aquarium setup
Fine sand is preferable, though clean rounded gravel can be used. Include sheltered areas for security.
Diet & feeding
Feed varied sinking prepared foods and small live or frozen items directly. This omnivore should not have to subsist on tankmate leftovers.
Behaviour & compatibility
A peaceful group of at least four to six accommodates its gregarious habits.
Sexual dimorphism
Mature females are generally larger, rounder, and deeper-bodied than males.
Notes
The unmarked fins provide a comparison with look-alikes such as B. agassizii and B. delphax, rather than a reason to disregard all other characters. Supplementary air breathing produces occasional surface visits. Pectoral spines can puncture skin, and secretions near their bases may be mildly toxic.
