概述
Betta dennisyongi

English
Overview
Betta dennisyongi is a small paternal mouthbrooder that has often been exported with a similar relative. Confirming identity before breeding is important, as is treating group compatibility as an individual outcome rather than a certainty.
Distribution & habitat
Known records lie along the western coast of central Aceh in northwestern Sumatra, Indonesia, from the Meulaboh area toward streams north of Singkil. It inhabits lowland hill streams and acidic freshwater swamps, sheltering among submerged leaves and marginal plants. Sites range from relatively brisk, clear sandy streams to slower brown water over mud and clay.
Aquarium setup
A pair needs at least a 45 × 30 cm footprint; groups require more room. Wood, branches, pots, and pipes can provide separate retreats. Leaves add shelter and microorganisms useful to fry, while a bare floor simplifies maintenance.
Use low light, shade-tolerant vegetation, floating cover, and gentle mature sponge filtration. Very soft water with little carbonate hardness is appropriate. A fast-flowing collection site does not by itself require forceful aquarium circulation. Secure the lid against jumping while retaining humid air and unobstructed access above the water.
Diet & feeding
The natural diet is thought to center on insects and other small invertebrates. Captive fish usually learn to take dry foods, supplemented with water fleas, Artemia, bloodworms, and other small live or frozen items. Small feeder insects can be fed beforehand. Avoid excessive portions.
Behaviour & compatibility
Keep it alone or choose exceptionally gentle companions with similar requirements. Larger and more competitive fishes can suppress feeding. Experiences with multiple pairs or one male and several females differ: some groups show limited chasing, while others suffer sustained aggression from dominant fish. Monitor individuals rather than assuming an apparently settled group will remain safe.
Sexual dimorphism
Males develop stronger coloration and longer extensions to the unpaired fins.
Breeding
Repeated embraces produce small batches of eggs. Unusually for a mouthbrooding member of the genus, the female's anal fin catches them before the male collects them directly.
Inexperience or disturbance may lead him to swallow or release eggs prematurely. Leaving the female present generally avoids the disruption of catching her. After approximately 10–17 days, he releases swimming fry. They can be raised separately or alongside the parents; reports of faster growth with adults are observations rather than guarantees.
Warm, humid air supports labyrinth development. Young can start on microworms and Artemia nauplii. Provide varied small meals two or three times a day, avoid excessive dependence on the latter, and use regular modest water changes.
Notes
Mixed exports with Betta rubra may have led to accidental hybridization. The uninterrupted dark stripe behind the eye, broader dark triangle below it, and wider spaces between male body bars help separate this fish. Retain collection or breeder provenance for breeding groups.
