Overview
Aphyosemion elberti is a killifish traded under the English name red-barred lyretail. Its documented range crosses several Central African countries, and historical locality labels need care because their country designation may not match present geography.
Distribution & habitat
Records extend eastward from Nigeria through central Cameroon, following the Sanaga drainage, including its Mbam tributary, and into the upper Mambéré system in the Central African Republic.
The original description cited Cameroon's Jade Plateau. This apparently denotes the Lebo River in the present-day Central African Republic, probably within the Mambéré headwaters. The connection remains qualified rather than an exact confirmed reinterpretation of the historical site.
