概述
红斑旗鮰（Aphyosemion cognatum）来自刚果民主共和国，分布范围似乎较广，但边界尚不明确。模式标本出自商业鱼批次，出口地点不能直接等同于准确采集地点。
分布与栖息地
模式材料经当时称为利奥波德维尔的金沙萨运出，只是推测采自附近。此后，金沙萨以东数百千米、桑库鲁河水系的 Fwa 湖也有标本被鉴定为本种，因此已知记录指向刚果河中下游更广的范围。
补充说明
种名含“有亲缘关系”之意，来自描述时对其与某些近缘旗鮰关系的判断，不应把这个词义当成现代亲缘关系已完全确认的证据。

Overview
Aphyosemion cognatum, the red-spotted lyretail, occurs in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Its range appears broad but remains poorly delimited. Because the type material came through the fish trade, the export location does not establish an exact collecting site.
Distribution & habitat
The original specimens were shipped from what was then Leopoldville, now Kinshasa, and were only presumed to originate nearby. Fish from Lake Fwa in the Sankuru drainage, hundreds of kilometers farther east, have also been identified as this species. These records indicate occurrence across a wider part of the middle and lower Congo region.
Notes
The epithet means “related” and reflects an assessment made when the species was described. The meaning itself is not evidence that its modern evolutionary relationships are fully resolved.
