分布与栖息地
见于委内瑞拉、哥伦比亚一带的奥里诺科河系统，以及圭亚那、苏里南和法属圭亚那沿海水系，包括埃塞奎博和马扎鲁尼河。巴西分布尚不清楚，阿拉瓜亚河和欣古河有零散记录。
通常活动于急流水段边缘的岩石区，从石面啄食藻类和小型无脊椎动物。
饲养环境
底面积至少约 120 × 30 cm，群养需更宽敞。沙底、圆滑石块和沉木根枝可构成环境，部分枝条伸出水面。活水草可能被啃食，较明亮光照可让石面长藻。

食性与喂食

野外可成大群，缸内少量同种却常争吵。较大的缸可养至少 6 条，否则以单条搭配温和中大型鱼为宜。可考虑体型合适的脂鲤、甲鲶类或温和慈鲷，喜流水的鱼较容易匹配环境。

尚无明确的人工繁殖记录。

倒立鱼这一俗称来自本科部分鱼类倾斜朝下的活动姿态，不应与固定栖居底层混为一谈。不同近缘种的外形和口部结构各有差别，选购与混养仍应核对具体物种。

Overview
Rockwork, oxygen-rich water, and some current suit Anostomus ternetzi. Plant foods should dominate its varied diet. Keeping a few conspecifics can invite disputes, so group size and available space must be considered together.
Distribution & habitat
Records include the Orinoco system in Venezuela and Colombia and coastal drainages of Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana, including the Essequibo and Mazaruni. Brazilian distribution is uncertain, with scattered Araguaia and Xingu records.
It normally uses rocky edges of fast-flowing river and stream sections, grazing algae and small invertebrates from surfaces.
Aquarium setup
Provide at least about 120 × 30 cm of floor space, with more room for groups. Sand, rounded stones, and branches create a suitable setting; some wood can project above water. Living plants may be consumed, while bright light promotes useful algal growth on rocks.
Maintain circulation and oxygenation. Since members of the genus jump well, close the lid securely, including gaps around equipment.
Diet & feeding
The species is omnivorous with a strong herbivorous emphasis. Supply spinach, lettuce, cucumber, zucchini, and algae-based preparations, supplemented with small live or frozen foods.
Behaviour & compatibility
Large natural shoals do not mean a few aquarium individuals will coexist quietly. Groups of at least six require a larger aquarium; otherwise, a single fish with peaceful medium or large companions is preferable. Matching characins, armored catfishes, or peaceful cichlids are possible choices, particularly those favoring current.
Breeding
Clear captive breeding records are unavailable.
Notes
The headstander label refers to the inclined posture seen in some family members. It does not establish permanent bottom-level residence. Related fishes differ in appearance and feeding structures, making species identification relevant to stocking decisions.
