Overview
Acestridium dichromum is a small loricariid known in English trade as the green whiptail. Available information chiefly establishes its distribution; appearance alone does not justify transferring care or breeding accounts from other small catfishes.
Distribution & habitat
Confirmed records span the upper Negro in Brazil, the upper Orinoco in Venezuela, and connecting drainages including the Casiquiare waterway. The type site lies in an Orinoco tributary south of San Fernando de Atabapo in Venezuela's Amazonas State.
Notes
The species epithet refers to two colors, possibly alluding to a change from brown to green. That proposed name origin does not establish the circumstances under which color changes occur.
